A Bottle of Lingua Franca Novo Vivo Pinot Noir

Tasting Notes

2023 Novo Vivo has a remarkable aroma of violets and rose, black cherry, black pepper, green olive and wet stone. Cedar, toast, black plum and blackberry emerge from the richly textured palate which finishes with a long velvety texture, floral notes, slightly herbal note of thyme, salinity and a dense red and black fruit accent.

Suggested Food Pairing

This wine is really destined for someone with patience, but if you must enjoy it in the next year or two, I recommend strongly flavored cuts of meat, a rib-eye, wagyu steak, wild boar, venison, rack of lamb with herbs de Provence or leg of lamb with mustard, garlic and rosemary.   If one contemplates a big feast, porchetta or whole roasted pig or spit-roasted goat would make for a wonderful marriage of food and wine.

If one can wait two or three years or more, and has a temperature controlled space to store wine, then it can be enjoyed at a later date with  lamb chops, NY Strip or Filet Mignon steaks, Tournedos Rossini, pan roasted duck breast, mushroom ragout or porcini risotto.  Experimentation is welcome!

Winemaker's notes

Novo Vivo 2022 is the continuation of the experiment done for the first time in 2020.It is a wine that is very labor intensive and was undertaken to see what would happen as an experiment on fruit from two blocks of very structured fruit with small to medium sized berries, known as Clone 943.Dominique championed this part of the vineyard from our first harvest, because of its structure and fine tannins, and for its strong minerality, and non-fruity, terroir-specific qualities that he felt most approximated what he looked for in Burgundy in the finest vineyards. 2023 departs from this profile with the addition of fruit from block 3 with only 25% whole cluster to make up 17% of the cuvée. This alters the cuvée slightly from its usual 50% whole cluster and 50% new oak composition making it 46% whole cluster and 46% new oak.

Awards & Accolades

96pts. A jeweled ruby color, the 2023 Pinot Noir Novo Vivo is a commanding wine with layered notes of cracked pepper spice, bright red cherries, crushed roses, dried earth, and raspberries. In the cellar, it saw 50% whole clusters and was raised in 50% new French oak barrels. Medium to full-bodied, it saturates the palate and has exceptional length and purity. It’s a stunner in the range and has another two decades or more ahead of it. Drink 2025-2045. Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com
