A Bottle of Lingua Franca Mimis Mind Pinot Noir

Tasting Notes

Mimi’s Mind 2023 is a luscious, round yet structured wine with aromas of wet stone, anise, tar, blackberry and it opens up to reveal fresh savory herbs and rose. These give way to deeper fruit flavors on the palate with red and black cherry, blackberry, black tea, and graphite nuances. The flavors and aromas continue through the finish which ends up with a mineral, saline, quality that is captivating.

Suggested Food Pairing

Mimi’s 2023, like the 2022,  should be paired with roasted or grilled lamb or beef, venison loin, duck, quail, pheasant, goose, pork tenderloin, chicken in mole, and heartier dishes. As it ages it can be paired with milder cuts, such as filet mignon or prime rib. Experimentation is welcome!

Winemaker's notes

The fruit is hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard, then again manually on the crush pad. A sorter then destems the clusters and selects only whole berries for the fermenters. Fermentation proceeds with wild yeast in stainless steel tanks. Cap management begins with gentle pump overs, followed by traditional pigeage. After fermentation, the wines aged in 26% new and 74% neutral French oak barriques for 12 months followed by an additional 5 months in stainless steel.

Awards & Accolades

96pts. Named after Mimi Casteel of Hope Well, the 2023 Pinot Noir Mimi's Mind has a deeper profile and pours a ruby red color. Boasting lush notes of sage, forest earth, black cherries, and wildflowers, it’s a structured red with a medium to full-bodied frame and offers more power in the range while remaining elegant. It has some grip through the finish, but I see this one improving over time and drinking its best over the next 15-20 years. Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com
